How Healthy Is Your Norwich Community? Hello Norwich residents! Welcome to my children’s health blog, Norwich edition. I came across an interesting article in Children’s Health Magazine that got me thinking about children’s health factors in Norwich.

Have you considered how your Connecticut community influences your child’s health? In a recent study, independent experts compiled statistics on more than 30 factors that are important to a child’s development including: crime and safety, education, economics, housing, education, cultural attractions, and health.1

Burlington, Vermont came out on top, receiving high marks in all areas of study. Burlington has the fewest fast food restaurants per capita and experts believe this is linked to the low rate of obesity. Clearly, the rate of obesity in Wilder and Hartford is partially due to the ready availability of Big Macs and Whoppers.

While moving to Burlington isn’t necessary for your Norwich child to thrive, ask yourself how your own Connecticut neighborhood ranks. If you think it could improve, attend Norwich city meetings or make changes within your own home.

Hello home based business owners in North Hartland! Today’s blog is about saving money with home business tax write-offs. If you are running your own direct sales business or online store out of your North Hartland home, you can take advantage of several tax breaks.

A percentage of your rent or mortgage and utilities can be deducted. If you use your computer exclusively for running your business, you may be able to write off the entire purchase price. Don’t forget to include the monthly fee to your internet service provider (I put this expense under the utilities category mentioned previously.)

Gasoline and auto maintenance expenses can take a large chunk of your income, especially as North Hartland gas prices continue to rise. Don’t forget to expense the business portion of your transportation costs.

You can’t write off 100 percent of business meals eaten in Norwich restaurants, but you may be able to expense 50 percent. The amount may seem too little to bother with, or on the other hand, it may surprise you. The key to getting the most tax savings possible is keeping good records and adding up all the little savings.

Flu Shot: Respiratory infections are dangerous for Hartford children with asthma. The flu shot lowers the risk of catching a bug and also helps lessen complications for those who do get the flu.
